Homemade scrubs can be every bit as effective as store-bought products but without the chemicals and preservatives. A scrub made with brown sugar is great to help remove dead skin cells and olive oil will soothe the skin, making it soft and tender.
½ Cup Brown Sugar
¼ Cup Olive Oil
Mix Brown sugar and olive oil together to make scrub. Apply to your face and neck in gentle circular motions. This can get quite messy to be sure to apply over a sink or in the shower. After 1 minute, rinse off the scrub with warm water. If you find the moisture from the olive oil to be too intense, gently wipe off any excess with a warm washcloth.
Exfoliating your skin regularly is important to help remove excess dirt, dead skin and oils to rejuvenate skin. The goal of exfoliation is to leave the skin feeling smoother and looking healthier, if your skin is looking red and irritated after exfoliating you may need to cut back on how many times you are performing this scrub per week. Generally you should exfoliate your face twice a week. If you have sensitive skin, twice a week may be too much. If you have oily skin you may need to exfoliate more than twice a week.
I'm not gonna lie even though its good advice it makes me hungry for a bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had all kinds of stuff like this when I was growing up. We did not have a lot of money I group very poor.
And as I got older and did well for myself and then even better for myself. I got away from all that homemade stuff and all natural cures because it made me feel cheap.
it didn't take me long to realize that the stuff that my mom was making and making me take was just as good if not better any store bought a product... hubris aside along with any ego I can admit I was wrong. Lol
I still miss my moms homemade breads there's nothing in the world like hot fresh out the oven bread. I have memories of cutting a thick warm slice of bread and spreading generous amount of homemade butter over it. Yum
I like the idea of going more "green" with hygienic products, mainly because it feels more natural. I'd like to create some more of my own things, like household cleaners and the like, but some of them are pretty time consuming!
DeleteI just started using lemon juice as a toner--I am in love with homemade recipes.
ReplyDeleteLast winter I used a similar recipe to help with my dry lips. I used sugar, honey and olive oil. It made my lips practically feel like silk (nothing store bought has ever come close to that).
I'll have to try the lip rub. I'd probably keep licking my lips though lol, that sounds so tasty. As it is I already was taking a couple licks of the brown sugar mix for this scrub! haha
