Hello and welcome! My name is Melissa and you've found my blog, Geek at Heart!

Here you'll find a great source of game knowledge and reviews combined with the skills for happy and healthy everyday living.

All my life I’ve had a passion for all geek culture, with strong emphasis in gaming. I take a lot of pride in this and really have no problem sharing it with others. Being an optimistic sort, I’d like to think now more than ever that being a geek has become more of an accepted social group in society, that it is possible to be involved in gaming and/or other geek pastimes without falling into unhealthy habits or stereotypes. With the ever expanding realm of technology and how much the human race has come to rely on it, geeks are needed and/or created on a day to day basis. So be proud, be healthy, and have some fun!

When I'm not writing for Geek at Heart, I work as a natural light botanical photographer. I’ve received my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Journalism at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California and I feel extremely fortunate to have a job in the field.

My husband Cameron loves guitars, music and film. He is easy going and keeps me lighthearted. My goal is to get him into gaming and perhaps he will teach me guitar. We live with our two cats, Baki and Loki, in a cozy little apartment.

JESSE COX 

I applied to Jesse Cox for a personal assistant position and to my pleasant surprise he hired me! Currently I work part time (Saturdays) while I transition from one job and location, to another. I really love this job and I look forward to working with him more often and associating myself more with the gaming industry than the career I have now.

THE FIRST 30 MINUTES

“The first 30 minutes of…” series features the first thirty minutes of any given game; new or old, indie or mainstream. These are not reviews, they are first impressions of what gameplay and plot are like so the viewers may get an idea of what each game consists of in the event they want to purchase and experience it for themselves.

When I watch other YouTube channels, I very rarely watch an entire game through to the end. Instead, I watch the first few videos in order to get an idea of what the game is like, feeling it out so I know if I want to purchase and experience it for myself. After I came to this realization and I decided to make videos for people who feel the same way I do.

MY PHOTOGRAPHY

I currently work with a Canon EOS Rebel T4i. My photography mostly consists of botanical shots which have been featured in horticultural books and websites, as well as Sunset Magazines Blog and Magazine. I will post updates under the photography category.
