Do what you love, love what you do

September 5, 2012

Do you know what you’re passionate about? Have you ever really stopped to think what grabs your attention and makes you excited? What you spend your free time thinking about, researching and/or doing? What makes you genuinely happy?

So many people out there just survive. Day in and day out they perform what needs to be done, collapse in exhaustion, rinse and repeat without ever taking the time to really do what they are passionate about. Can they say they really enjoy life without doing what they love?

A friend said to me “find what you’re passionate about, what you love to do every day and then find a way to make a living doing what you’re passionate about.” This resonated strongly with me. Such a direct and clear form of thought and yet I had never really considered it before. I had just been surviving.

When I reflected on what I am most passionate about (activity wise) it dawned on me that I think about video games the majority of my time. I think about what I’m playing, what I want to play, what I’ve played in the past. I research how to be better and what products are better. I’ve played video games since I was three or four years old and I have never grown tired or bored with the concept of gaming.

This blog, my YouTube, my whole presence on the Internet is to share my passion for gaming with you and make a living doing what I love.

Try something for me. Sit down with a paper and start writing down what you’re passionate about. What do you really love doing that you could do every day without fail? Let me know if you had any revelations and if you feel you could ever act on them.

  1. the very first game I've ever played was Mario and duck hunt on the same cartridge for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. my step dad always hated that I like to play video games which is ironic twist of fate because he's the one who brought that brought it home. thinking back it wasn't in the Box so it wasn't new maybe someone give it to him for payment of something. many years later I learned that he had a terrible methamphetamine habit maybe was tied to that I don't know. but be that as it may the fact remains from that day onward I LOVED video games. which is great because it's so easy ties into my true passion which is drawing I've always been very good at it and when I was younger I would have dreams of being a concept artist for the gaming industry. I'm 28 now life gets in the way sometimes things you don't expect or didn't see coming tend to distract you from your goals. I'll probably never get a chance love my dream. I still love to draw and I have been paid for doing art based side jobs for people. drawing fanart is now my release and I love doing it. Lol ever dry my friends dungeons and Dragons characters for them I love to draw people scared a lot of fun

keep up the good work Melissa I love your channel and I love your blog doing awesome work.

    1. Thank you! I'll try to get a screenshot of my Skyrim character to you soon! I was just deciding on whether I wanted to work at getting some epic armor before I do. Have you created yourself a Deviantart? It's a good place for artists to share their work and you can even sell printed pieces.

  3. I truly did try this and it's hard--because for an economy to survive and thrive there needs to be workers who are willing to do what they don't want to do so they can get paid.

I think if you are one of the lucky few who can love what they do, then you need to latch onto that and press forward.

    1. You tried this? What do you love to do? It is hard, but there are some people that enjoy working for others. My mom, for example, told me just yesterday that she would prefer working for someone else so they could handle all of the business management and she could be free to just do the job she's given.

I hope to be lucky someday, but I'm definitely trying to give lady luck a hand by working as hard as I can to make my dream come true. She can step in at any time though, I wouldn't hold it against her! =P

I love your blog btw. It is peaceful and whimsical!
