Sodas can have some serious negative effects on your body when consumed regularly and I really want to take steps to a healthier lifestyle. I’ve actually succeeded at cutting soda out and I’ll tell you why...
I treat myself to tea.
I think we all like to be treated to something special. When I would bring a soda or an energy drink to work I felt like it was a special treat to myself; a pick-me-up for the long work day. When my heart started to flutter from drinking too many energy drinks I decided to stop and stop fast.

Plain tea can be a healthful, calorie-free beverage, but be careful how much cream, sugar, and flavorings you add into your cup, add too many and your once-healthful drink becomes a rich dessert. I favor natural honey because unlike processed sugar and artificial sweeteners, honey is antioxidant rich and does your body good while taking the edge off your tea.
Laboratory studies suggest that tea may reduce cholesterol levels, help prevent blood clotting, lower the risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, heart disease, and even fight inflammation, cancer, and seasonal allergies.
Also ladies, studies suggest these possible health benefits specifically for women:
- Black and green tea may lower risk for ovarian cancer.
- Green tea may reduce breast cancer risk.
There are several different teas to choose from, each one delicious and beneficial in it's own right. Try them out!
A good cup of tea can be wonderful at times.
ReplyDeletePersonally a bigger fan of coffee, but with the selection of tea we have in our house it's hard not to find something to suit your mood.
One of my absolute favourites is called Irish Dream, it's a chocolate and whiskey flavoured black tea.
Of course, if you want a nice cup of red tea, you really can't beat a good cup of Roiboos if you ask me.
I've actually read that coffee can be a rather good antioxidant too as long as you don't put a ton of sweeteners into it!
DeleteI used to like tea when I was younger, but was spoiled on it when a friend of mine, with too much money, introduced me to prohibitive expensive, loose leaf tea blends. Blueberry, strawberry, Jasmine, Camomile, Mint, Peach, Apple, pineapple-mango... I could go on all day... You make literally make anything a tea flavor if you know how... Oh wait, here's a basic site with help for that!

I actually planted a Camellia Plant in my yard about a year ago. I am waiting to begin harvesting it for the wonderful new teas until I get some new plants going, so I can space out how I am attacking them for their leaves. Now I just need to plant all the fruits, berries and herbs to flavor it with and begin my foray into tea making! I figure if anyone can fully appreciate this, it's you! =D
Also, first, good one you for making it through the caffeine withdrawals! Proud of you! *highfive* And, that travel mug is pretty amazing!
Have a good day Miss Lissa! Take care of yourself, and make sure to go have an adventure or two! ^_^
Oooh! I'm thinking of starting a kitchen garden in the spring so I might add this to my list!
DeleteI highly recommend that you do, though camellias can get a bit big maybe, for kitchen. =P Still they don't grow too fast and maybe you'll have a little yard space when you finally move to LA, right? ^_^
DeleteDelicious.
