Gargoyles is an American animated series created by Greg Weisman. The show aired in 1994 and continued to 1997. It was then continued in 2006 to 2007 by a comic book also titled Gargoyles, written by Weisman and produced by slave labor graphics.
The series features a species of nocturnal gargoyles that turn to stone during the day, focusing on a clan led by Goliath. The clan originates from 994 A.D. Scotland where they coexist with humans in an uneasy truce until they are betrayed and cursed to remain frozen in their stone form until their castle ‘rises above the clouds’. In 1994 a billionaire, David Xanatos, purchases the castle and reconstructs it on top of his skyscraper in New York, awakening the six remaining gargoyles. Upon waking in this new modern world the gargoyles are aided by a sympathetic NYPD officer, Elisa Maza, and quickly come into conflict with David Xanatos. In addition to the gargoyles adjusting to their new life in New York, the series also incorporates various supernatural threats to their safety and the world at large.
Gargoyles has to be one of my favorite cartoon shows of all time. I started watching Gargoyles when I was in middle school and it became part of my nightly schedule to watch it on the Disney Channel before bed. I believe what appealed to me the most were the supernatural species incorporated into our modern society.
My favorite gargoyle was Brooklyn, who was your favorite character?
I LOVED THIS SHOW... O_O okay ill calm down but needles to say this show was three kinds of awesome. Mikel Dorn as the voice of Goliath aka. Lieutenant Wharf and Johnson frinks as the voice of Xanatos aka. Commander Riker. and other gest voices from next gen though out the run of the show... The makers of the show must of liked next gen.
ReplyDeleteMy no.1 favorite gargoyle was Broadway he had a big heart. But Goliath was a bad ass
I liked Brooklyn's unique look and his mix of Lexington's intelligence and Broadway's heart.
DeleteI thought Keith David voiced Goliath? I think Wharf voiced his brother Coldsteel?
Johnathan frinks* sorry
ReplyDeleteyou know what I think you might be right it's just been so long... I can't believe I'm talking gargoyles with somebody. I thought I was the only one who like to show hell I had all the toys well not all of them I could never find a Lexington.
ReplyDeleteokay this is a funny story
while back ago I had a chance to get a cold steel action figure (out of box) but it was still more the thought of having it. Anyway so I went to my moms to get the rest of my old gargoyle toys and add it to the collection. unbeknownst to me she had sold all of them except for Bronx in a garage sale over 3 years ago and I just never was told. my mom says "you're 28 I didn't think you would mind their just toys" shocked and with a heavy heart I replied " I'm a 28 year old nude. damnit mama! have a 6 inch boba fett made 2 years before I was even born standing by my computer at the house..." she says " whos bubba fat" lol I can laugh at it now.
No you're not the only one who loved that show! I know there are more people because they actually had and maybe still have conventions for it. They did a little feature on it on the DVD.
DeleteThose figurines might have been a hidden goldmine! That's so sad! =(
