Managing stress is tough. Between situations at work and trying to consistently update this blog and my YouTube channel; I am teetering on the edge of my stress limit right now and it’s not a good feeling.
Excess stress can manifest itself in a variety of emotional, behavioral, and even physical symptoms. Common physical symptoms include sleep disturbances, muscle tension, muscle aches, headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, and fatigue. Emotional and behavioral symptoms that can accompany excess stress include nervousness, anxiety, changes in eating habits including overeating, loss of enthusiasm or energy, and mood changes, like irritability and depression. I personally have experienced each one of these symptoms from stress at different times.
Beyond a take-charge approach and a positive attitude, you can reduce stress in your life by nurturing yourself. If you regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you’ll be in a better place to handle life’s stressors when they inevitably come along. Below is a list of activities you can do to release stress.
- Go for a walk.
- Spend time in nature.
- Call a good friend.
- Sweat out tension with a good workout.
- Play video games.
- Write in your journal.
- Take a long bath.
- Light scented candles.
- Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea.
- Play with a pet.
- Work in your garden.
- Get a massage.
- Curl up with a good book.
- Listen to music.
- Watch a comedy
Normally playing video games is my number one stress release activity and I highly recommend it to anyone who can prioritize their time. When I can take a portion of my day, preferably before I go to bed, to play a video game it calms me down and relaxes me, even if it’s a tense game. It’s not only taking time for yourself, it’s absorbing yourself in a plot and setting that are disconnected and separate from your everyday life.
How do you relieve stress?
I sell have problems with stress and anger management though I'm not a violent person I use to have a short fuse. I think a lot of it has to do with what you were saying on your last vlog. I feel very much the same way you do I also have problems with "muting" my personality in social situations and in public constantly worried I might be offending somebody or something I guess. The thought of something I might say or do of dress or act ripping someone the wrong way but in reality I had no provocation to think that way I like the way you put it being very neutral and in reality nothing is asked of me directly or indirectly that would warrant this feeling. For a long time I chocked it up to being respectful or tolerant of other people and the bad thing about it it's a feeling I imposed on to myself or something like that and I don't know where that feeling comes from... I guess it's hard to explain for me any way but the way you put it in your volg yesterday was prefect it made me go " yes exactly". it's nice to know that I'm not the only one in the boat I realized this about myself a little under a year ago and in the active trying to change it I've gotten happier.
ReplyDeletesorry about the text wall =) ...
ps. thank you for your blog and everything you do. no person can live in a vacuum or more eloquently put " no man is an island".
Thank you! I feel like everyone should be respectful towards one another, and everyone should be able to express themselves in a healthy way by how they act, dress, style their hair or with body art. I'm making an effort not to be neutral anymore!
DeleteI believe it is hard to advise people on what to do whenever they feel stressed because even I forget everything else and just release my alter ego as Incredible Hulk when I'm not feeling good. It totally brings out the bad side of us. But when I feel that I'm starting to be stressed, I eat. I'm really not sure if that's good but it's the best I can do. I also prefer cold food, like ice cream and yogurt, they make my heart smile!
